South Holland Liberal Democrats candidates fought the District Council elections in the Crowland and Deeping St Nicholas Ward (Glyn Mayley), and the Moulton, Weston and Cowbit Ward (Nigel Hancocks and Anne Ramkaran) on 5th May 2011.
While none was successful, they raised the profile of the Party locally and gave publicity to local issues.
Overall, the composition of the South Holland District Council now is 25 Conservative Councillors and 12 Independents.
In the Deepings area of the South Kesteven District Council, the Party originally had two candidates (Ken Joynson and Phil Hammersley) in the Deeping St James Ward. As a result of the untimely death of Councillor Ken Joynson just before polling day, the election was cancelled and re-arranged for 23rd June.
A lively election campaign in this three seat Ward then ensued, with voters having the opportunity to vote for three candidates from a list of 10. The Liberal Democrats put up three candidates, Phil Hammersely, Janire Morris and Peter Morris. There were also three Conservative candidates, two Green Party candidates and two well known local activists as Independents.
In the event, local issues were the main topics, and the two Independents topped the poll, with one Conservative also succeeding.
The composition of South Kesteven District Council is now 38 Conservatives, 12 Independents, 6 Labour Party, 1 Liberal Democrat and 1 unaffiliated.

The UK Payments Council announced this week that it's reversed its decision to scrap the cheque. This is especially great news for small businesses, voluntary and community groups and for older people.
