Honorary President of the South Holland and the Deepings Liberal Democrats, Councillor Ken Joynson, passed away on 3rd May 2011 after a fall while visiting the Spalding Flower Parade on Saturday 30th April.
He was due to defend the seat he had held for the Liberal Democrats on South Kesteven District Council since 1983 on 5th May so the ward election had to be postponed until 23rd June.
Although disabled by polio as a child, Ken was a keen sportsman and had played football to a good standard, and had run in the first three London marathons. He was a passionate supporter of Stamford AFC, of which he was Chairman.
He was a Chartered Accountant and a former teacher at Peterborough Regional College, and a Governor of New College, Stamford
Ken was a hard working Councillor who served his community in a variety of ways for many years, his passing is a sad loss to Deeping St James and to the cause of Liberalism which he supported all of his adult life.
