PHIL HAMMERSLEY

I have lived in Swift Close, Deeping St James, since 2006.  I have been been a Science teacher since 1991, having previously worked in the chemical industry.  I taught at a major comprehensive school in Peterborough, but am now Head of Science at a special school for children with emotional and behavioural problems near Oakham.

I am married to a nurse, and we have  4 children, and 2 grandchildren.
My other interests include the Nene Valley Railway, and performing with the Glebe singers, and Peterborough Operatic Society.

When/if? elected as the County Councillor for Deeping St James, I will be working to develop and improve the economic and cultural life of the Deepings community

Recession is hitting the most vulnerable the hardest says Vince Cable, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor

Lincolnshire County Council should be encouraged to spend more on schools and local amenities to provide work and boost the local economy.

Vince Cable and Nick Clegg say:

  • The Liberal Democrats are the only party who will put money into people’s pockets with fair tax cuts;
  • The only party to offer universal childcare and smaller classes in our primary schools;
  • The only party who would use Gordon Brown’s wasted billions to create thousands of jobs today by investing in homes, hospitals, schools and public transport to build the green economy of tomorrow
  • The only party that will rebuild the jobs, homes and hopes that this recession has destroyed.

Phil will work to develop the local community by

  • Supporting the aspirations of the Deepings Rugby Club to secure its long term future;
  • Encouraging and supporting activities at the Community Centre;
  • Working to develop plans for a base for Arts activities in the Deepings, including more major Library provision.

With concerns for the environment, and as a motorist, Phil is all too aware of the volume of traffic on the  A15 and A16 major routes, and of the need to extend the hours of the  bus services, and develop ideas for using the under utilised adjacent railway line.

It is iniquitous that South Kesteven is the one local area in Lincolnshire that does not allow free bus travel for pensioners before 09.30 a.m.

Will  it really make any difference which of the two discredited major parties is running the country?
Vote Liberal Democrat on June 4th for a change, a different philosophy. The major parties are too centralised, and control budgets centrally.
The Liberal Democrats are the party for local control and finance.
